Created by John Taylor in 1856, this pork-based meat product was grilled, sliced, fried, grilled and used in breakfast sandwiches with eggs and cheese. Italian sausages, which were made at Jimmy Buff's in Newark in 1932 and are particularly popular in Essex County, are among New Jersey's most popular and popular foods.

The gluten is prepared and doused with a sauce of your choice, but if you want to do more than that, you can order it in one go.

They are traditionally packed in tubes - like bagpipes, but in the north they are known as hoagies, stacked on sandwiches - and run over high, as the New Jersey version shows.
