Washington George High School Reviews

Safety and discipline are real strong! Students ere uniforms and there is a strict code for cutting.

The principal was nominated for the best princiapl of the year. The community needs know that gWis changed

I had a very disturbing experience about this school. staffs are disoriented, they eye service, i feel a sense of separation. some of the staffs put the laws into their hands, & want 2 decide for u which school suites or what kind of education your child should get. they seems not to want certain ethnics of children. The most advanced country in the world, children been deprived of their eds. most teachers are doing great things.

Working as a TSS (one-on-one care in school for a child in the special education program), I have had the opportunity from an outsiders view, to observe how the special education classes are organized and the quality of the academic programs. I have been very disappointed in the lack of quality education my client is receiving in a program that is supposed to be geared towards his individualized plan of education. The classrooms are very chaotic, the students are often rude and disrespectful and teachers are not following through with disciplinary action. Many of the special ed students received all F's on their report card and I wonder if some of the parents are aware, or care, of their child's lack of acceptable performance in class.

My oldest child went to Washington and needless to say that it is not the same school I graduated from 20 years ago. Its a little bit more rowdy but the teachers are still good. It has great extra-curricular activities and Great programs. I would say the parents are pretty involved.

If your child is in the IB program or at least some of the higher level classes, you need not worry. The education they will recieve is incredible. However, even some of the rapid classes do not offer a high value education, mainly because of the students' lack of interest and partly because of the teachers'nochalant attitude towards their work. I would still strongly recommend attending Washington. It's an all around great school that lets you pursue any career even outside academics.

It is unfortunate that the previous writer had such a bad experience, but her comments do not reflect the school today. Washington is a completely different school than it was even three years ago. It's calm and tries to meet student's needs.

As a graduate of semi graduate of GWHS parents know nothing of what goes on behind those school walls. As of a few years Washington started taking in any student and it didn't matter what there grades or behaivor looked like. And now the school has gone to hell. The some teachers can't teach because of the disruptions and then give up. Other don't care. By my senior year I could no longer take it left I studied on my own and received my GED in June of 2004. To all parents who think GWHS is the school of all schools take a closer look, visit the school, do your job and truly make sure your child is getting a fair education. I would say that my best advice to you is to enroll your child in a different school but in Philadelphia maybe a school were a fight is everyday is OK.

Both of my children are currently attending George Washington and I must say when my daughter started last September I was a little nervous but in one week she adjusted beautifully. My son is now a Junior and has never been treated unfairly. In the past two years Washington has come a long way under the guidance of Mr. Liebowitz who has a very positive attitude and keeps parents well informed of what is going on.

My daughter is a graduate of Washington. She graduated in the top 5 % of her class and is now attending college where she is excelling. Washington did a fine job preparing her for college. My son currently attends Washington. He too is receiving a good education preparing him to persue a college degree. Both of my children participated in extra-curricular activities. My daughterdanced in DisneyWorld 2 times and danced once in the Bahamas. My son has already gone to Florida to baseball spring training. I am an active parent. I can't understand how a parent would not know that her step-daughter was having problems. Maybe instead of blaming the school, the parents should take a more active role in her schooling.

My daughter is a junior and is doing extremely well. She is in the top 5% of her class and enjoys GWHS. On the other hand, my son attended GWHS and didn't bother going to class and eventually was kicked out of school. I believe the child is responsible for their own actions; not the teachers or principal. Most of the teachers do care for the kids who want to learn, but some do not bother with the kids who goof off. I've seen a great improvement over the past 2 years since Mr. Liebowitz became principal. He has made major changes and the parents seem to be happy. The school is not perfect but he is trying his hardest even though his hands are tied with downtown politics. With a school district our size, there can't be the perfect school. Keep up the good work Mr. Liebowitz!

My oldest graduated with honors, went to college, graduated with honors and has been accepted into several graduate schools. My youngest gets mostly A's & B's - does not cut all her classes. If for some reason they do not attend school a machine calls the house to let the parent know that same day. Kids jay walk everywhere. Graduates from George Washington go on to colleges including Ivy League Schools.

I have two sons. One is a graduate of George Washington, the other is currently a Junior there. I am an active Home & School parent and see on a regular basis what Washington has to offer our students. GWHS has teachers that care. They have staff that listens and responds to our concerns quickly. I have also found that George Washington High School does their job, and prepares our children for college. My older son, as well as his friends have been accepted to the finest colleges, and have all done very well. GWHS offers many levels of classes for all types of students. I am happy with our families decision to attend GWHS.

I have a daughter who is a senior at GWHS. She is in the Performing Arts Area. Due to the diverse activities offered at GWHS, she is able to participate in a variety of quality performing arts programs, to include concert choir, chamber choir & dance. She is a member of the National Honor Society. Each year, GWHS inducts on the average 200 students who must have a 90 grade point average. It is unfortunate that the only thing that people read and talk about is the small % of negative incidents that take place at the school. Please be aware that most all extra-curricular groups compete and take home top national awards. The colleges/university's that our students go to are as diverse as the suburban schools. As an active member of Home & School I know that most of the students are at GWHS to learn.

my step-daughter is a freshmen who brought home a report card of straight F's,not to mention she had skipped at least 37 times(this was just in one class)and skipped others as well before we were even made aware of the situation.there is also police supervision in and outside of the school.the policing is an absolute joke.I have driven by on several ocassions as school is letting out, only to have students jumping out in to on coming traffic, nearly causing accidents.yet each time several police officers were there, both on foot and on motorbikes that witnessed these events... never once did any of them attempt to move let alone at least call over to these trouble makers.this is just the tip of the iceberg, and much of this school is an absolute disgrace it is truely sad for the few children that are there for an education. sincerely, a concerned and disgusted parent
